Coinciding with 2021 Inauguration Day and its ‘virtual parade across America’, Nicola Green’s virtual solo exhibition Unity launched online from Zuleika Gallery Woodstock, Oxen, and at the London Original Print Fair, on 15th of January, and ran until the 26th of April 2021.
At a time when we are facing deep divisions across our societies, shaped by intensely partisan politics, and social and economic inequality, this exhibition is a reminder that when people come together (whether digitally or in-person!) they can achieve the seemingly impossible. This exhibition unity reflects on power, diversity, heritage, race and gender, and their intersections.
Two new artworks have been created for this exhibition Unity I & II, to mark the swearing-in ceremony, celebrate the democratic process, commemorate the cycle of change, and symbolise hope.
Unity is derived from In Seven Days… a narrative set of silkscreen prints telling the story and legacy of participation and support, and of the collective creation that was Barack Obama’s meteoric ascent to power as the first African-American President of the United States.
